BKCM Free Rehearsal Space

As part of New York Music Month, in June and July, artists in our community will have access to FREE rental space at the Conservatory. The 17 studios all contain Steinway pianos, both uprights and grands. The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music is a secured, heated, and air-conditioned facility with free WiFi and access to restrooms. It is wheelchair accessible.

Anti Social Camp Kickoff Day

NYC’s premiere songwriting camp starts with a packed day full of kickoff events. First, there will be an Opening Ceremony with a surprise celebrity guest to greet our 100+ participants. Next, Anti Social Women Running Music is a panel of star female producers leading a discussion to address industry inequality, sound engineering and production, music business and management, leadership and communication skills. Lastly, Gear Day is a one-day mini trade show within the camp to familiarize talent and industry with music’s prestigious gear companies — booths, demos, masterclasses and all.

Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: New York and the Birth of Hip-Hop

This panel will talk about hip-hop’s roots and why it continues to be one of New York City’s great contributions to global culture. It will feature stories from the pioneering hip-hop family of DJ Kool Herc and Cindy Campbell, whose August 1973 party is commonly cited as the beginning of the hip-hop movement. And from Davey D and Rob Kenner, who almost half a century later work through hip-hop to advance social change
