Nick Sansano

Music Producer, Engineer, Chair
NYU Tisch School of the Arts

Nicholas Sansano is a Grammy-nominated producer, engineer, and educator whose genre-defying career has helped shape the sound of contemporary music. Born in the Bronx, NY, he earned his Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music in 1986, studying piano performance, arranging, and music production & engineering. He joined the faculty at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in 2004, where he now serves as Associate Chair, Director of Production Curriculum, and Co-Director of Musicianship and Performance Curriculum. In 2013–2014, he was honored with the Tisch School of the Arts’ David Payne Carter Award for Teaching Excellence.

Sansano began his career at Greene Street Recording, working with hip hop legends Public Enemy, Run DMC, Ice Cube, and Rob Base. His success in early hip hop led to collaborations with Sonic Youth, co-producing the landmark albums Daydream Nation and Goo. His work appears in the Library of Congress’ archive of culturally significant recordings.

Internationally, Sansano has produced multi-platinum albums in Europe and received three Victoires de la Musique Awards in France. Despite commercial accolades—including over 17 Gold, Platinum, and Diamond records—he is most at home working on boundary-pushing projects, and performs with his experimental group, The Bronze Fondue.
