SHEROES is an independent, intersectional-feminist, nationally syndicated radio show and interview podcast, 100% produced, hosted, engineered, and curated by women. Our mission is to amplify cis and trans women, nonbinary, and queer voices in music through song and conversation, across genres and generations. While it is widely known that music is still a male-dominated industry, we rarely find safe spaces and women-centered music media to share our stories and experiences. Now as women’s rights, trans rights, and LGBTQ+ rights are under fire, artists are on the frontlines. Now, more than ever, we need SHEROES. SHEROES was founded in 2020 by longtime radio personality and music journalist Carmel Holt. Carmel hosts, curates, produces, engineers, edits, and distributes SHEROES Radio and Podcast each week to 20+ public radio stations nationwide from her home studio in Kingston, NY. The podcast is distributed by Talkhouse. Carmel graduated from Bard College in 1994 with a degree in music, cut her teeth in radio at Radio Woodstock (Woodstock, NY) beginning in 1995 to 2013, followed by six years at WFUV Public Radio in New York City as midday host, interviewer, and assistant music director, from 2013 to 2019.
