The Guardian, Rolling Stone, Folha de S.PauloFelipe Maia is a journalist, ethnomusicologist, and DJ whose work maps the crossroads of popular music, digital culture, and the Global South. He writes for Folha de S. Paulo, The Guardian, Pitchfork, Mixmag, Resident Advisor, and Remezcla, among others, and holds a fellowship at Université Paris Nanterre, where he researches Brazilian mobile sound systems — the paredões — and their entanglement with São Paulo funk. As a DJ, he holds a residency at Rinse France with BAÏLE, a radio program that champions baile funk as a genre of club music, and has performed across Argentina, Senegal, France, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, and Brazil. He has curated projects for NTS, Boiler Room, and Spotify, including the NTS compilation Funk.BR – São Paulo.
