Portrait of Varun Kataria

Varun Kataria

Owner & Creative Director
The Sultan Room / Xanadu Roller Arts

Varun Kataria is a Brooklyn-based creative director and entrepreneur known for transforming nightlife through immersive, nostalgic experiences. He is the visionary behind The Turk’s Inn, The Sultan Room, and Xanadu Roller Arts—three interconnected venues in Bushwick that blend vintage aesthetics with contemporary culture. Inspired by his childhood memories of the original Turk’s Inn in Wisconsin, Kataria salvaged and reimagined the supper club, reopening it in 2019 as a vibrant restaurant and performance space. In 2024, he expanded his creative footprint with Xanadu, a neon-lit roller rink and music venue that quickly became a hub for New York’s roller-skating community. A former percussionist and frontman of the Minneapolis band Brown Moses, Kataria draws on his musical background to craft spaces that prioritize entertainment, inclusivity, and joy. His work is characterized by a playful fusion of mid-century Americana and global influences, offering guests a unique blend of dining, dancing, and skating—all under one roof. Kataria studied law at the University of Minnesota, but chose to pursue his passion for creative ventures instead of a traditional legal career.
