Local New York radio has long played a crucial role in the development of the city's music. Since at least the rise of FM in the late-1960s, radio DJs have championed local artists and left-of-center sounds; club DJs hosted their own mix-shows, breaking new records and rhythms; while specialty programming by independent broadcasters accentuated the sounds of local neighborhoods and communities. It remains true to this day.

“Local Frequencies,” a conversation hosted by The Lot Radio and Dada Strain, gathers a panel of past and present radio DJs who are also active participants in the NYC music community. They’ll examine the city’s radio history, explore the current state of local radio (terrestrial, digital, pirate), and explain where it’s going next and how it reflects a healthy music ecosystem.
