This panel discussion and listening session will explore community music initiatives with roots in New York City, looking at how community music functions as a building block for culture, connection, integration, and education across diverse communities throughout New York City. Recent recording sessions as part of Power Stations Community Music initiative to document these communities — including The Central Park Rumba and the Louis Armstrong House Orchestra — will be discussed as case studies of how both informal and formal community music groups serve as a vital part of continuing the legacy of NYC as the world leader of culture.
